Everything you need to know

Product basics

Q1. What is ContractorKit?
ContractorKit is a practical recordkeeping and export-preparation product for Canadian self-contractors. It helps you organize receipts, invoices, expenses, and supporting records, review extracted data, and generate clean summaries and CSV exports.

Q2. Who is ContractorKit for?
ContractorKit is built for Canadian self-contractors, sole proprietors, and self-employed operators who want a simpler way to keep business records organized without moving into heavy accounting software.

Q3. What kinds of documents can I upload?
You can upload receipts, invoices, supplier bills, and other supporting business documents you want to keep organized, reviewed, and ready for export or accountant handoff.

Q4. What is ContractorKit not?
ContractorKit is not tax filing software, accounting software of record, legal advice, tax advice, or a replacement for your accountant or bookkeeper.

Q5. Is ContractorKit for year-round use or just tax season?
It is designed for light weekly or monthly use throughout the year, so you can stay organized instead of rebuilding everything at tax time.

How the workflow works

Q6. How does ContractorKit work?
The core workflow is simple: upload documents, extract key details, review uncertain records, organize everything, and generate clean summaries or CSV exports when needed.

Q7. What happens after I upload a receipt or invoice?
ContractorKit reads key details from the document, creates a draft record, and shows you what needs review before that record is treated as ready for summaries or exports.

Q8. Do I need to review extracted data?
Yes. AI-assisted extraction may be incomplete or incorrect, so you should review records before relying on them for bookkeeping, accountant handoff, or tax preparation.

Q9. Can I correct categories, amounts, dates, or vendor details?
Yes. ContractorKit is built around review and correction, so you can edit extracted fields and keep your records clean before exporting them.

Q10. Can I export my records later?
Yes. ContractorKit helps you generate clean summaries and CSV exports from reviewed records for your own use or for accountant/bookkeeper preparation.

AI, trust, and boundaries

Q16. Does ContractorKit use AI?
Yes. ContractorKit uses AI in a practical, controlled way to help read documents, extract key details, and suggest structured information such as vendors, dates, amounts, and categories. The goal is to reduce manual work and make record review faster, not to replace your judgment.

Q17. Does ContractorKit make decisions for me automatically?
No. ContractorKit may suggest structured values based on the documents you upload, but it does not silently make final decisions for you. You review the record, confirm what is correct, and make changes where needed before relying on that information in summaries or exports.

Q18. Is ContractorKit tax filing software?
No. ContractorKit helps you organize records, review extracted data, and prepare clean exports from your documents. It is designed to support recordkeeping and accountant handoff, not to file taxes on your behalf or act as a tax return platform.

Q19. Does ContractorKit provide tax, legal, or accounting advice?
No. ContractorKit does not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice. It helps you keep business records organized and easier to review, but decisions about filing, compliance, deductions, or professional interpretation should remain with you and, when needed, your accountant or advisor.

Q20. Does ContractorKit replace my accountant?
No. ContractorKit is built to make accountant handoff easier by helping you keep documents, records, and exports more organized. It can reduce admin friction and help you stay prepared, but it does not replace a qualified accountant, bookkeeper, or tax professional.

Plans

Q11. What is included in Starter?
Starter includes the practical core workflow for keeping your records organized: document upload, AI-assisted extraction, review and correction, records organization, clean summaries, and CSV export handoff. It also includes the core dashboard, reviewed-record visibility, and billing/settings basics for the current product.

Q12. What is included in Plus?
Plus includes everything in Starter, then adds a stronger recurring-use layer built on reviewed records. That includes Financial Overview, spending visibility, vendor and project concentration views, project-linked follow-through, recurring visibility where enough history exists, and practical operational checkpoints that help you stay on top of your records over time.

Q13. What is the difference between Starter and Plus?
Starter is built for the core job: upload, review, organize, and export clean records. Plus is built for ongoing follow-through after that core workflow, with better visibility into reviewed spending, project-linked activity, recurring patterns, and records that may still need attention.

Q14. Who should choose Starter?
Starter is a good fit if your main goal is to keep receipts, invoices, and supporting records organized, reviewed, and ready for export without moving into heavy accounting software.

Q15. Who should choose Plus?
Plus is a better fit if you want more than storage and export readiness. It is designed for self-contractors who want to keep returning to reviewed data to see where spending is going, follow project-linked records, check recurring activity when available, and work through practical monthly or period-based checkpoints.

Privacy, storage, and accountant handoff

Q21. How are my documents handled?
Your uploaded files are stored in your private ContractorKit workspace as part of your recordkeeping workflow. ContractorKit is designed to help you keep receipts, invoices, and supporting documents organized, connected to your records, and easier to review over time.

Q22. Does ContractorKit keep original files?
Yes. ContractorKit is designed to preserve uploaded business documents and link them to organized records where supported. This helps you keep the original file alongside the structured record, so it is easier to review details later or prepare cleaner handoff materials when needed.

Q23. Are exports meant for my accountant?
They can be. ContractorKit is built to generate organized exports for your own review or for accountant and bookkeeper preparation. The goal is to make your records easier to understand, easier to sort, and easier to hand off when you need outside support.

Q24. What do summaries and CSV exports represent?
Summaries and CSV exports reflect organized data from reviewed records inside ContractorKit. They are meant to help with recordkeeping, review, and handoff, but they are not tax filings, accountant-certified outputs, or guarantees of compliance or completeness.

Q25. Am I still responsible for checking my records?
Yes. You remain responsible for reviewing your records, confirming important details, and deciding how to use the information outside the product. ContractorKit helps you stay more organized and prepared, but you should still check what you rely on for bookkeeping, accountant handoff, or tax preparation.

Q26. Can I use ContractorKit on mobile?
